Tonight, City Council agreed unanimously to appoint Edith Wormley as the new Ward 6 councilor by a 6-0 vote. Councilors Camera and Marino were absent.

Edith Wormley is the Assistant Director of Academic Opportunities Programs (AOP) in the Intercultural Affairs Center at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. She is a leader in the East Lakeview Neighborhood Association in Geneva, New York. In 1990, Edith became the first African American woman elected to the board of the Geneva City Schools, a position she held until 1997. She is a recipient in 2014 of the Geneva Chapter NAACP Mary Ann Mallard Community Service Award.
After 68 days without representation, the people of Ward 6 have a city councilor.
Wormley, who enthusiastically supported Juanita Aikens to be appointed to the seat and is supporting Aikens’ Ward 6 council campaign, will serve until the end of 2019.
More on this story as it develops.
UPDATE: Edith Wormley has declined the appointment to the Ward 6 council seat.
